Gili Trawangan

When in Lombok, do not forget the many Gilis - meaning 'small islands' . As if Lombok is not beautiful or distinctive enough, there are many more mini Lomboks springing out of the sea with more of their idiosyncractic features.
Take Gili Trawangan for example. The largest and most popular of the 3 Gilis off the (beating Gili Meno and Gili Air), the first time that strikes you is the shallow, clearer-than-aquarium waters. In fact, the waters are so inviting that the jetty is the last place you should land in. That's the only time when big stable vessels are actually disadvantageous compared to the slim boats that are the mode of transport for most trips beginning from Lombok.

Lombok 18 Sept 09

They are all around.... the more they cluster high and dry in a particular stretch of sandy canvass, the more convinced you should be you have found a choice spot... I'm talking about the ubiquitous sailboats of Lombok. Red, blue, orange, black, violet, you name it,
and the colour will be there waiting to be unfurled. Or if you somehow manage to get up late in sun-drenched Lombok, they would be out there sailing into the horizon already.

Cats... meow

Except for purring , these cats seem to do everything...wink, preen, play , claw playfully at each other.... You find many statues of them throughout the small city of Kuching catching your attention. The most expressive ones are found in the crossroads between Hotel Margarita, a hospital and Parkway. It's a favourite among tourists especially at night when the lights shine strategically on each cat's most idiosyncratic features, lending an individuality to the ubiquitous residents.
