The Beaches

No mention of Bali is ever complete without a reference to its beaches, especially the best of it all - Kuta beach.
A mecca of sorts for sunworshippers, it's easy to see why Kuta attracts the crowds like migratory birds to the south. The waves are an inexhaustible supply of surf for those who loves watersports but you won't be amazed at how the the strong waves fail to erode the beach. It's so wide that it can take the length of a beached whale! We went on a holiday which saw domestic tourists outnumbering foreigners for once. Still, there is enough leg space for everyone to establish their turf to sunbathe or frolick with friends (which included a pack of puppies play-acting as hunters)
And while the sand is less than the pristine white I envisioned, the strength it draws from its compactness support the feet firmly even as the waves try futilely to steal the sand away. I had an enjoyable time just walking barefooted on this sandy canvass...
